There’s been a trend lately to push away from basic black, not that the little black dress is going somewhere, but the fashionistas often press alternative colors; blues, greys and other neutrals, I think because black has been the go-to color for so long that they were looking for options.
There’s some merit to this change as black’s slimming effect can be offset by changes in skin tone and coloration as you grow old and most women over 40 can benefit from adding at least a little color to their outfits.
Still, it’s hard to beat an all-black outfit. And black is still preferred in other parts of the world; as for instance in Asia where it still is the preferred evening wear. That said I enjoy a statement all black outfit like this one.
The unusual coat adds movement and interest to this outfit with the different textures from coat, boots and bag adding extra dynamic.
I love black because my preferred accent color is red, and in particular red lips which is a perfect accent to either my blonde or my grey wig. Adding a statement hat just increases the enjoyment of the outfit.
This lady combines being comfortable and warm with a funky, fashion forward statement outfit and I think she looks great!
Although I like wearing black, I seldom wear all-over black any more. And living in the tropics I prefer an all black look when I can keep my legs bare. Bare legs provide a nice contrast for the black and make the look a bit softer. There are a few great examples of that here.
Also when I wear black I prefer to mix black with white or a brighter color. Here in Merida I often use black as my bottom base as I have many black skirts from minis to maxis and particularly full midis from mid-knee to 4-6 inches below the knee with a swirl that is very feminine. They create a long lean silhouette when worn with black boots or booties.
