I’ve always been a fan of Lane Bryant having shopped in their stores in 6 states and multiple cities. Probably my last location in the U.S. in El Paso was my favorite store because Diane immediately took charge and helped me find things that looked good on me. She became a friend and confidant and I was pleased that she was recognized for her efforts by the President of Lane Bryant.
She was perhaps the best but certainly not the only Sales Associate that befriended me and treated me like a lady. And I can say the same for their sister store, Catherines, which are part of the same group. They love us TG ladies which is why I tell the newbies and first-timers to shop there. You will never be embarrassed. In fact Diane told me on one occasion that she made a special effort to see that I was never embarrassed by anyone in the store.
The plus-sized stores are having to reinvent themselves to stay competitive and Lane Bryant has mastered the market with new offerings that are trendy, well made and with exceptional customer service. No more dowdy clothes for a size 28 lady. From your lingerie to your dresses and accessories, you will feel sexy, put together, and chic.
Sixth and Lane is their runway-inspired line and the clothes have a classical look with modern lines. They have added two major designers, Isabel Toledo and Sophie Theallet. Ms Toledo is a Cuban-American designer so she brings a Latin flair to her designs Toledo’s capsule collection for Lane Bryant is filled with super-feminine, sultry-yet-work-appropriate styles while Sophie Theallet for the Cacique lingerie line is a French designer and you can see the chicness and sexiness in her designs. Lane Bryant has certainly spared no effort to bring clothes to the plus size women that allow her to feel equal to those skinny girls.
Let’s look at some of their offerings
How can a girl not feel sexy in this lingerie and it’s made to fit.
If this wasn’t enough, Lane Bryant has now opened its first Cacique Lifestyle store in Jersey City, NJ at Newport Centre. According to the official press release, the new Cacique Lifestyle store will offer “a curated collection that encompasses their customer’s vibrant lifestyle needs in terms of fashion forward active wear and loungewear, alluringly confident intimate apparel, featured designer collaborations, and the newly debuted runway-inspired 6th & Lane ready to wear collection.”
What I found of particular interest is the collaboration of Lane Bryant with the plus-size blogging community. Bloggers play an important role in their annual fashion week and increasingly we see bloggers working alongside Lane Bryant to offer style tips as they did at this new store’s opening day. Bloggers are the new fashion magazines and increasingly play a more important role in deciding fashion trends. I personally follow a dozen fashion forward bloggers that reflect chic and stylish approaches to fashion for the 40 plus woman. Hopefully we can convey some of this sound advice in our own columns to those of you that crossdress with a passion to represent our fairer sex in the best possible way.
Not all of these plus-size offerings quite give the feel that I’m looking for but Lane Bryant has expanded their repertoire of plus size clothing to include everything thing from modern chic to French classical to country and western. something for everyone as you can see in this brief video.
Finally, let me address some customer service aspects of the Lane Bryant stores. Obviously my opening comments are part of this as was the quick response I got from their marketing manager off their Facebook page some time ago. Facebook is becoming a major marketing tool for companies wishing to build a close relationship with their customers.
Lane Bryant has two rather interesting customer response programs on their website. Just for You helps you select clothes from a profile that you build, basically your own Lookbook. I would hope that they’d expand this concept with a little more depth and give it a Pinterst type of presentation. And heir LB2ME program provides an instore Lookbook that helps you get the right size and color of garment in your hands if not readily available in nthe stores.
It seems that Lane Bryant is listening to the plus-size community and we have much to gain from this effort. Please visit the Lane Bryant site and see for yourself
